Sustainable Beekeeping
At The House of Honey, we combine traditional beekeeping with modern, sustainable practices to ensure the long-term health of our bees and hives. We follow strict biosecurity guidelines, never use chemicals in our hives, and are committed to ethical beekeeping methods that put bee wellbeing first.
We never over-harvest our pure WA honey, ensuring each jar is responsibly sourced. Even our by-products — like beeswax — are repurposed into handmade candles and tinctures. For conscious consumers in Singapore, this means you’re choosing sustainable honey that supports healthy bee populations and the environment.
Out In The Field
As migratory beekeepers, we carefully relocate our 500 hives across Western Australia to follow the most vibrant and natural nectar sources. While producing our award-winning honey, our 50 million bees also play a vital role in pollinating local flora — supporting biodiversity and agriculture in the region.
To protect the purity of our honey, we keep our apiaries far from GMO crops and agricultural sprays, always maintaining at least a 3km buffer. For conscious shoppers in Singapore, this means every jar of our honey is a product of clean environments and ethical beekeeping — with no compromise on quality or sustainability.
Experience and Education
With 50 years of passion and experience, we’re dedicated to sharing our beekeeping knowledge with beginners and schools in Singapore. Our event calendar offers workshops and sessions on how to start beekeeping, practice safe and sustainable methods, and understand why caring for bees is essential for our environment and future.
Our friendly team at the shop — our own “worker bees” — are always happy to share their expertise and answer questions, making every visit both educational and inspiring for local honey lovers and aspiring beekeepers alike.
Our EventsOur Shop and Production
We’re committed to responsible recycling and using eco-friendly packaging for our Singapore customers. All online orders come in recycled materials to reduce waste and avoid single-use plastics. Takeaway items are packed in recyclable containers, and purchases are placed in paper bags. Where possible, we encourage customers to reuse cardboard boxes for larger items—helping to minimise plastic use locally.
Our shop and production are powered by solar energy, thanks to 78 solar panels on-site, significantly cutting down our carbon footprint. We also collect and purify rainwater, using it sustainably in our honey production. These green initiatives align with Singapore’s focus on sustainability and eco-conscious living.
Commitment To Emissions Reduction
We proudly support the Australian Tourism Emissions Reduction Commitment (TERC), a nationwide initiative helping tourism businesses measure, reduce, and report their carbon footprint. Joining other responsible businesses, we’re working towards the Australian tourism industry's goal to cut emissions by 43% by 2030 and reach net zero by 2050.
This commitment aligns with global sustainability goals and reflects the growing eco-conscious mindset here in Singapore. Together, through collective action, we can contribute to a cleaner, greener future for our planet.
Container Deposit Schemes
We’re committed to reducing our environmental footprint by supporting container recycling initiatives. While based in Perth, we proudly participate in the Container Deposit Scheme, ensuring every glass bottle and aluminium can we use is responsibly recycled. The refund collected is donated directly to The Wheen Bee Foundation, helping protect bee populations and support environmental conservation.
In Singapore, where sustainability and recycling efforts like the NEA’s Waste Management programmes are growing, this approach reflects our shared values of giving back to the environment and supporting biodiversity.
Our Future
We’re always keen to improve and grow our sustainability efforts. Looking ahead to 2024-2025, our goals include investing in hive scales and supporting important projects like the University of WA’s “Save the Bees” initiative.
